Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 29, 2026

talk1min (“we”, “us”) is a daily English-speaking practice app. This page explains what information we collect when you use it, why, who it may be shared with, and the choices you have. Our Terms of Service also apply.

1. Information we collect

Account information. You sign in either with Google or with a one-time sign-in link we email to you. With Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture. We store your email address (which links your practice history to you), your name and picture if Google provides them, which sign-in method you used, and short-lived sign-in tokens that expire after use. We never ask for or store a password.

Stories you choose to share. If you send us a story through “Share your story” and tick the box allowing us to publish it, we keep the text, the name and short description you chose, and the photo you added (if any, as a small square image). It is shown on our website only after we review it. You can remove it at any time with the link in the confirmation email we send you, or by contacting us; removing it also deletes the photo.

Score cards you choose to share. If you create a score card with “Share my score”, we keep the name you chose for it (or “Anonymous learner”), whether to show the question, and which result it belongs to. Anyone with the card's link can see its image and page: the name you chose, your scores, the date and, if you chose so, the question. The card never shows your email address, recording, transcript or written feedback. You can delete a card at any time under “My score cards”; its page then stops working. We count how many times card pages are viewed, without recording who viewed them.

Practice data. The topic and question you practiced, any “main idea” note you typed, the recording's length, and the resulting transcript, scores and written feedback.

Your recordings. See section 3: audio is handled differently from everything else.

Your choices and feedback. The consent you give when you sign in (acceptance of our terms, and whether you want optional emails), and any thumbs-up/down or comment you send about a results email.

Technical and usage data. Your IP address and basic request information, which we use to keep the service secure and to apply usage limits, plus analytics about how the site is used (pages visited, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser type).

2. How we use your information

  • To generate your results and email them to you.
  • To show your practice history and progress if you are signed in.
  • To apply usage limits, prevent abuse and keep the service secure.
  • To understand how talk1min is used and to improve it, including by reading the feedback you send.
  • To send the optional updates and reminders described in section 5, only if you agreed to them.
  • To comply with legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

3. How we handle your audio recordings

We do not store your recording. It is held in memory only for the short time needed to process it and email you the results, and is then discarded; we keep no copy, archive or backup of your audio.

To produce your results, the recording (and the transcript made from it) is sent to third-party AI and speech-processing providers, which process it on our behalf for that purpose. A copy of your recording is also attached to your results email as a backup for you; from that point it is in your own mailbox. Your Practice History shows scores and transcripts, never audio.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run talk1min and process it on our behalf, in these categories: sign-in and authentication; hosting and database services; email delivery; AI, speech-recognition and text-analysis services; and website analytics. Each receives only what it needs for its role. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or security of users or talk1min.

5. Emails we send

Service emails. Your results email is sent because you asked for an analysis; you can't opt out of it, just as you can't unsubscribe from a receipt for something you requested.

Optional updates and reminders. Only if you tick the optional box when you sign in, we may send occasional product updates and practice reminders (for example if you have not practiced for a while). Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing never affects your use of talk1min or your results.

6. International transfers

Our service providers may process information in countries other than where you live, which may have different data-protection rules. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

7. How long we keep information

Recordings are not kept (section 3). Your email address, practice history, consent choices and any feedback you sent are kept while you use talk1min and afterwards for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes above, unless you ask us to delete them. Security and rate-limit logs are kept only for a limited time.

8. Your choices and rights

  • Access, correction and deletion. Contact us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you. Depending on where you live you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, and to complain to your local data-protection authority.
  • Optional emails. Unsubscribe at any time using the link in any such email, or by contacting us.
  • Google access. You can review or remove talk1min's access to your Google account in your Google account settings.

9. Cookies and local storage

We use a cookie to keep you signed in and to carry your sign-in choices, and your browser's local storage to remember your light/dark theme. When you arrive through a link that carries campaign tags (for example from a video or a shared score card), a first-party cookie remembers those tags for 30 days so we can tell which links bring new accounts; if you then create an account, we store the tags with it. Analytics tools may set their own cookies or use similar technology to measure usage, under their own policies. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, but some features may then stop working.

10. Children

talk1min is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we make a material change we will change the “Last updated” date above and may ask you to accept the new version before you continue recording.
