Quick answers to the things people ask most.
talk1min is a free daily speaking practice for English learners. You pick a topic and a question, speak for up to 60 seconds, and we email you a clear analysis of your answer (pronunciation, grammar, fluency, vocabulary and content), together with your recording.
Yes, talk1min is free to use. To keep it fair for everyone, each account can have up to 5 recordings analyzed per day.
You can speak for up to 60 seconds, and an answer needs to be at least 10 seconds long to be analyzed. Around 40–60 seconds usually gives the most useful feedback.
Your answer is scored from 0 to 100 on pronunciation, grammar, fluency, vocabulary and content (how well you answered the question). The overall score is their average, and it is lowered when an answer doesn't address the question. The scores are a study aid to help you notice progress, not an official exam result.
No. We don't keep your recordings on our servers. Your audio is used only to produce your feedback, and it is sent back to you as an attachment in your results email. See the Privacy Policy for the details.
This usually means the recording had no clear speech: it was silent, too quiet, too short, very noisy, or mostly not in English. Check that your microphone isn't muted, move a little closer, and record again. If the problem is caught before you press Analyze, it doesn't count toward your daily limit.
Results usually arrive within a minute or two. Check your spam or promotions folder first. If it still isn't there, contact us and include the Test ID from your Practice History so we can find it quickly.
Not at the moment; talk1min is built for practicing spoken English.
